Preparation Instructions:
My old friend Craig from Brisbane Australia sent me this awesome whole wheat animal crackers recipe, and I must say it was delicious. To begin the preparation process, first you should set your oven to a preheated temperature of 350 degrees Fahrenheit, or 175 degrees Celsius. Moving forward, next take out a strong electric coffee bean grinder, and then plug it in. Pour your organic quick rolled oats into the machine, and then let them grind for a couple of minutes, or until a fine powder forms. For the next step, pour the ground oats into a heavy glass mixing bowl, along with the whole wheat graham flour, light brown sugar, regular plain table salt, and pure baking soda. Sift these base ingredients together until the mixture is consistent and even. Next you will want to stir in the vanilla extract, all vegetable shortening, and hot bottled water. Mix and work the animal cracker dough until it's firm and stiff. If you find that you need to add more flour, then go ahead and do so. You are now ready to clean a counter surface, then roll your dough out into a ball or sphere. Using a heavy rolling pin, flatten this dough ball to roughly an eighth to a quarter inch thickness. Next dip the rim or edges of your cracker cutters into some remaining flour, then cut out as many shapes as you can. Place your finished crackers on to a greased cookie sheet, setting them one inch apart as they will expand a little. Finally for the last step, slide the cookie sheet into the oven, and let your whole wheat animal crackers bake for ten minutes, or until they are crisp and golden. Let them cool for ten minutes before serving them. They taste excellent with warm tea, or cold 2% milk. Thanks for visiting our site.
